Ever wanted a V12 1997+ Toyota Century but wondered how much it would cost?

Have no fear Luc is here to find out.

Being a former customer of my local importer I don’t feel bad in asking him questions all the time.

Here was the exchange between us.

Hey Will have you ever imported a 1997+ Toyota Century? Would you have a rough guestimate of how much they would be?

Hi Luc, Yes we have. They can range in price. For ones in high grade / good condition with low mileage around 7-10K with some variables.

That’s actually a lot cheaper than I expected I would of guessed in the ~15k range. SO TEMPTING!!!

That’s right folks $7-10k delivered to my door in Edmonton Alberta.

Kinja'd!!!

All this luxury for a measly 7K. This car was over 100k when it was new.

Holy hell that’s cheap! If I became rich and/or powerful, I’d totally rock a new v12 century (they still make them, right?)

Well, I hadn’t, but I do now. Sounds downright reasonable, though I’d have to wait until 2022 to import one here, and by then we’ll have been forced into little gray GooglApplemobots.

It's interesting how these are only sold to high ranking government officials, people of class (i.e. Yakuza) or the discreetly rich. So that means there should be plenty of love stains and/or blood stains

You don’t live in California, the place that will actually try such things. Probably.

Actually yes it is still in production. and it is the only production japanese car to ever be equipped with a V12. it is rated at 276hp but it is believed that it makes closer to 310hp and 355lbf-ft. Also it makes over 300lbf-ft at only 1200 rpm!!!

Couple of pre ‘97 models have been imported to Finland. I was quite close in buying one dirt cheap that had some front end (collision) damage.

that’s great and all but pre 97 didn’t have the V12 yet. wouldn’t you like the V12 instead?

I think V12 would be really nice to have. Registering Japanese cars newer than ‘96 used to be nearly impossible here. Now early ‘00 should be pretty easy. Here the importation taxes get lower following the car’s age so as old as possible is the cheapest way here.

Our largest Japanese car import company went belly up and currently only small numbers are imported. They did bring plenty of quite weird cars that still pop up in local gatherings.

The headlights that are LHD would need to be changed into something legal and all other lights too if they aren’t E-approved. Usually the JDM cars that have been imported aren’t running completely legal light as they have been MOT’d with some makeshift lights.

Interesting to hear how it works over there. Here in Canada you just have to install daytime running lights and you are pretty much ready to party.

You don’t even need to worry about the LHD headlights? I visited Vancouver 11 months ago and the only Japanese import that I saw was an LHD Supra.

You can import those too from Japan for about the same price.

This 89000 km (55000ish miles)example is only $6900.

SAY IT AIN’T SO!!! Doesn’t really matter to me since it has to be 15 years old for me to import.

As soon as I have ~10K to spend on an automotive toy I’m thinking this would be a great car to buy.
